We made the trip up to the Bay Area Monday night for my sister’s birthday Tuesday. After arriving very late, we slept in until Taryn (the sister) came over, then we headed to lunch, ice cream and bowling. She is 22 this year, which is pretty nuts. I’m feeling old. Anyways, we then headed to the Elephant Bar, which I’d never been to, for dinner with the Cornings. (Don Corning is an AMAZING photographer, does great commercial work, and his wife Diane is a brilliant business person. They’re a constant source of learning, inspiration and encouragement to us both.) After way too long of a wait, we got a table and the food was awesome. Like, Asian/African. How has this place escaped me as a decent place to eat for so long?
Finally, we went home to the spa, then watched Lawrence of Arabia, sort of. I’ve always wanted to watch that movie, just seems like a great classic. So, we put it on, but the whole time were thinking, “gosh, nothing makes sense. Maybe it’s a generational thing?” When it ends we’re all just sort of confused and bewildered. So, when my mom goes to take the disc out she says, “Oh, wait, why does it say disc 2?” Ya, that’s right. We put in disc 2. That would explain the intermission music and blank screen at the beginning. So, I still have no idea whether it’s a good movie or what it’s about really.
Having gotten my 24L Friday, it’s all I’m shooting right now. So fun. I don’t regret selling the 85L at all, the 85 1.8 is awesome and lighter and much more fitting to my actual needs.
Oh, by the way, at Starbucks I decided to get a little adventurous and try the Vivanna thing they’ve got going. Thumbs down my friends, thumbs down. It’s not horrible but I’d choose their reliably moderate coffee over that every time now.
This, of course, is Don Corning. We’re actually about to head to his studio where he is going to show me some new software he’s raving about. Gonna be sweet!
Birthday toast.
Updated: These photos are from the next day, seemed most fitting to tack them onto this post:
Cappacinos at Corning Photography! Soooo good.
Happy b-day to Taryn with Mexican food and Margaritas!
Dad got a super cute new dog, some kind of a Husky I think. Not a wolf but it looks like it. Check out those eyes.
