As I write this I’m in Portland, having just finished a full on hillbilly ho-down show at Solid Rock. Get this: I left my camera at home! Can you believe it? I know. Thankfully, I’m not here for pictures and, to be honest, it’s good for me to take a break from being camera guy for a little while. But, the ho-down really made me bummed I forgot it. I was dressed up and so was everyone else on stage. It was a redneck party with a bunch of Portland indie music people, almost a contradiction in terms but so awesome. Anyways, you thought you were going to hear about the San Diego Zoo didn’t you? Right. So about that…
On labor day (monday, remember?) the decision was made to go to the zoo with the Kings, since it was Ainslee’s first birthday and Hailey and Leah’s birthdays were nearby. It was extremely last minute, but awesome as only a last minute trip can be. We took the RV and spent the day there. Having spent the morning looking at all my favorite photographer’s new work, I was super inspired and took a zillion pictures. Part of the reason was that Scott and I were supposed to take new head shots for him that day and we agreed to try and do it at the zoo.
Oh and in quick review, the San Diego Zoo is sooooo cool. Really a great day!
Apparently Hailey’s not quite ready for sun tan lotion.
mmmmmm.
And this is the reason Katelyn can’t sleep and probably wants to move. We saw a mountain lion up close and personal!
The lions were hiding/sleeping and Katelyn had a brilliant idea: “Scott, run back and forth, it’ll trigger their instinct to chase.” You wouldn’t believe it, but it worked! That is, until mother nature behind us threw a fit.
Katelyn held it together long enough for a pose with the cat.
Parents should get in pictures too.
Lastly… a few matters of business: posts are now going to be addressed as zachhodges.com/blog/name, so if you wanted to get to this one again, you’d go to zachhodges.com/blog/sandiegozoo. Also, I noticed that 1. the blog was taking FOREVER to load if it loaded at all and 2. People’s lips were looking quite neon and weird. Hopefully both problems have been corrected for the future. You’ll have to utilize categories to get around more now though as the blog will only show 2 posts at a time from now on.
