Much of my wife’s family got really into Twilight this last month, so we decided to make a Twilight-themed Christmas photo this year. As we got into it though, we kind of switched from family photo to just trying to duplicate the original movie poster as closely as possible, hence it’s not all family in the picture and key family members (parents, for instance) are missing. For me, it turned out to be a very fun and enlightening project/experiment. I definitely felt a little dumb when I found out halfway through that the real one was done by the youngster prodigy Joey Lawrence, who I think may now be 18 or 19, but it was still super fun. Definitely challenged my lighting muscles a lot, it was hard with 2 580’s, a 430 and a bunch of home-made light modifiers.
From left to right: Katelyn (my wife) Me, Megan (Sister-in-law) Scott (Brother-in-law) Ariel (my wife’s cousin… my cousin-in-law?) Davis (Our friend and my occasional assistant that fit the part)
Please note, this photo is a TOTAL copy of the movie poster, shot by Joey Lawrence joeyl.com. I claim no originality or copyright on this and no one should use it for anything ever. Credit goes to him, I was just having fun.
While we’re at it, let’s make this a quick movie review too: Twilight, a good idea, a good cast and great acting shrouded in a poorly produced chick-flick. Katelyn LOOOOOVES this movie, I’m so so. The concept is great, a vampire and a human fall in love, he struggles between wanting to kill her and drink her blood and just loving her. But really, it’s a full-on chick-flick love story with terrible special effects and one of the worst soundtracks I’ve EVER heard from an otherwise decent movie. Worth seeing? Yea, once if you’re me, thrice if you’re Katelyn.
Merry Christmas!

just came across. Nice blog
good clean fun, xlnt job
Good job. A nice likeness of the cast. Though I think your physique may be a little more modest than the one you are representing.
One thing that bothers me about it though is how harsh the highlights are. And the skin tones are so muted. But I guess that was the goal. In the original it really bugs me how he is coming out of her back. It just looks so awkward. But it looks like you had fun taking on the challenge of recreating it. Joey is really an amazing photographer for his age. I don’t particularly like his style myself but it’s totally marketable. It’s just overly dramatic for me. And everyone looks so plastic. Hmmm… But he is doing better than I and making a pretty good living at it so what do I know?
That just about all I have to say about that.
Wow, you did a great job on those photos! Your photo and lighting skills are amazing! Hows your nunchuck skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills……? Ha ha just kidding. I’m impressed, as always!
Awesome job on the “family” photo. Although a blatant rip-off of JoeyL (you really pulled it off), gotta give you credit for A. Trying it… B.Doing it well. I am adding your blog to my faves. Happy Holidays!
P.S. Congrats on David not crashing your site
