2008 has been a huge and great year for us, there’s just so much to say about it. 2007 was crazy changes year, 2008 has been new things and transitional year. Rather than try and remember everything, I just scrolled through the personal section of my photo library and pulled out a bunch of favs. Some are new some are not, but it’s a fun look at our year.
NAMM 08 with Allan was super fun. I finally saw a real mellotron and played it, wow. Waves was showing off their guitar software with lame banners, which Allan made great fun of.
Katelyn & I visited Orange, the city, and also explored some orange groves near our house.
Scotty had his prom and homecoming, which ended up making for some fun photos.
Katelyn had a big painting phase, which still shows on our walls.
Ted, my father-in-law, left the church he’s been working at for 15 years to start a new one. We got him a happy retirement balloon and a payday bar to congratulate him.
We went on a cruise to Mexico with Reliance.
Our friend’s kids made for constant models
We spent a month in portland while I worked on a record, then visited Seattle (fav place in the world)
I ruined Kylo’s ping pong career with this photo.
We spent thousands fixing our #$%^#@$#(& Volkswagens. Still hurts.
I spent more time in portland working on a Christmas record with Josh.
Scotty, my brother-in-law and friend, turned 18 and hat a sweet birthday bash.
Hailey, the oldest King girl, turned from baby to young girl. It’s crazy watching kids grow.
Homemade lattes became a morning addiction/routine, still going strong and loving it.
Scott graduated.
I just liked this one and it never got anywhere.
Katelyn is a freaking amazing cook.
July 4th!
Hymns record with Sherri was SUPER fun and rewarding.
Went bowling a lot this year. I’m no better than I ever wasn’t.
Good times at Corning Studios and Disneyland (RIP our season passes)
Katelyn got really into estate sale hunting, which got us lots of cool and cheap stuff for our house this year. Best of all, my green chair. There’s something about having your own chair, just feels right as a man.
Portland became a city that I love. Also, my great friend Bobby moved there and got a great new job and a swanky new wardrobe.
Got to meet and work with Danny Donalee with Sheri, very cool guy and rad studio.
Went to the San Diego Zoo, which is cooler than I remembered.
Discovered cream of wheat with hot chocolate powder. Wow, super good, who knew? Just don’t try to calculate the nutritional math.
Went to Jalama Beach for vacation.
My neighbors from growing up moved here and took us out on their boat!
I went shotgun shooting for the first time with the Reliance men. Boo ya.
Katelyn turned 21 and had A beer at Killarney’s. Yummy.
Pie eating contest at Halloween, I mean, ah hem, HARVEST.
Katelyn’s getting awesome with the camera.
Scott bought a house that came with a weird pimp jacket in the closet. This was too good.
I discovered one of the oldest buildings in Temecula, the first church. Cool place.
The pimp jacket made it’s way to a Christmas party where my father in law put it on. Also Troy posed for me in his awesome UPS shorts. (note his wife swooning from the other room in the doorway.)
Coji’s was eaten at many times.
And, Christmas was super fun and simple thanks to Megan’s wedding being so close.
Excluded are all the great weddings and portrait sessions from this year, which were truly best ever. It’s been a great year in so many ways and we’ve been blessed to meet so many fantastic people. Here’s some of the best firsts I could think of that aren’t listed here:
I finally got organized with the first calendar system that’s ever worked for me, google calendar.
I got the farthest I ever have reading the Bible by setting a very loose plan of 2 OT 1 NT per day.
I discovered Pandora, which has changed the way I listen to music
I got hooked to Capture One, which has made RAW editing the most fun it’s ever been. (Thanks Nick Onken… who is himself another 2008 discovery)
I had my first experience with a lawsuit, thanks to a car accident from 3 years ago. Thankfully it got dismissed!
I got a real website and started a blog.
I pretty much finished the transition from a career in music producing to a career in photography. Hallefreakingluya. That was hard.
2009 is already shaping up to KO 2008, we’re very excited. Stay tuned!
Happy New Year!

and katelyn
Seems like you had a fantastic 2008! It’s interesting that I’m currently going through a similar process myself. From working for a record company to wanting to make it as a photographer.. Great to see that others can do it as well! Thanks for the inspiration and God Bless!
Just found this site via Strobist and have been reading through it today.
You have a ton of amazing pictures and both of you do some great work. Very inspirational, I’ll be bookmarking this site and following all of your updates!
Happy New Years to you and Katelyn! We sure have enjoyed checking out your blog…and had even more fun being your subjects on that warm day in November! I still get so many great comments from the pictures of our family! I hope to work with you guys this year!!
